Orbán Calls for Review of EU Sanctions Policy

The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, criticized the European Union (EU) for its sanction policies and bureaucratic rules that, according to him, are harming the continent's economy. In an interview with public radio Kossuth, Orbán emphasized the need to reduce energy prices and suggested that the sanctions imposed on Russia should be reviewed, which he opposes since his country heavily depends on imports of Russian oil and gas.

In addition to addressing the energy issue, Orbán pointed out that the EU should work on reducing community bureaucracy, which he considers harmful to the economy. The Prime Minister recalled the recent approval in Budapest of the Declaration on the new pact for European competitiveness, which includes these measures.

Orbán, known for his friendly stance towards Russia, expressed that if the EU stops supporting Ukraine, it would have serious economic consequences for the country. He also opined that the outgoing U.S. administration should not incentivize the conflict and stated that it is necessary to support the efforts of the elected president, Donald Trump, to achieve peace.

The Hungarian leader, who has also been a close ally of Trump since the 2016 elections, emphasized the importance of maintaining a balance in international relations and advocated for measures that promote stability and economic development in the region.
