Hungary and the United States signed a civil nuclear cooperation agreement on Monday during U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to Budapest. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated that the agreement, along with a sanctions waiver granted by the U.S. administration, will strengthen Hungary's energy security and support its ability to provide energy at competitive prices to households and industries. He added that Hungary maintains an open and transparent attitude with its partners, including the United States, and that any concerns can be addressed through direct dialogue, according to the Argentine News Agency (NA). Rubio confirmed that the nuclear agreement followed talks held during a meeting in November between U.S. President Donald Trump and Orbán at the White House. He also confirmed that Washington had suspended certain sanctions affecting Hungary, which would allow for greater progress in bilateral energy cooperation.
