Orbán Urges EU to Talk Directly with Russia

The head of Hungary, Viktor Orban, called for the EU to start direct negotiations with Russia to stop the fighting in Ukraine and declined to publish a joint statement at an exclusive summit scheduled for this week. Orban stated that internal disagreements within the union 'cannot be overcome'.

"I am convinced that the EU, like the United States, should enter into direct dialogue with Russia regarding the cessation of hostilities and achieving a sustainable peace in Ukraine," said Orban. In a letter to the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, he noted that there are 'strategic differences in the approach to Ukraine, which cannot be overcome'.

Thus, Orban expressed Hungary's position regarding Ukraine and advocated for direct negotiations with Russia.
